There's A Lot Of Corn In Nebraska

We Need Gas

Our seven year old just woke up.

We heard the rustling first. Then, in an urgent whisper, the first words out of his mouth were, "we need gas." Not, "Good morning." Not, "Hi, mom and dad. Where are we?" The trouble starts when they learn to read. But he's right. We need gas.

Sign: found on Dave Barry's blog, who attributes it to "Laura" with a citation to Christoblog.

Making Up For Lost Time

Our kids go to bed at 7:30 pm on a normal day.

The girls usually hit the hay at 7, our oldest at 8:30. Getting them into a hotel room at 11 pm is really late. We thought, "let's use that to our advantage."

So, we woke everyone up at 6 am and headed out onto the road. It's now 8:19 am and they are all still sleeping in the back of the car. Complete silence. And we'll eat breakfast in Omaha.

By the way, there's a lot of corn in Nebraska.

We Didn't Make It To Lincoln, Nebraska

We didn't even make it to Grand Island.

We (ok, not Rocky, just me) thought it would be "cool" to say we went from Grand Junction, CO to Grand Island, NE in one day. Our detour in Denver kept us from that lofty goal. :) We pulled into the hotel here in Kearney at 11:00pm Central time (this blog's clock is Pacific.) It was another long day for the kids, but they were troopers.

Tomorrow, we will go from here to Plainfield, Illinois. Julie, be prepared, we're going to be a tired and cranky group of eight!
